In year 2005 when the story begins as a 27 years old architect Ted was living to his two college bestfriends Marshall Eriksen [Jason Segel] and Lily Aldrin [Alyson Hannigan]. Marshall as a lawyer has been dating Lily, a kindergarten teacher, for almost nine years and later engage. This brought to Ted to think about settling into marriage but he didnt have a girlfriend. Finding the perfect mate for him, a womanizer with lucrative corporate job Barney Stinson [Neil Patrick Harris] invented a game "Hi, Have You Met Ted?", and where he introduced Ted to Robin [Cobie Smulders], a young television reporter at a local news station. In their meeting when Robin starts to become part of the group, a Ted's group of friends, and the time Ted falls for her in despite Robin dumped him which clearly showed in the first season .




Part of Ted's searching for his soul mate, he dates Victoria [Ashley Williams], a baker, prompting a long distance relationship but does not last. This threatened the friendship of Ted and Robin as the two becomes lovers in the first season finale.They get together and later break up during the last last episode of the second season. The break up only reveals to Barney due to Marshall and Lily's wedding. Ted is o longer sees Robin "as the one". In the second season finale does not reveal the identity of the "mother".

Third season of the show premiered September 24, 2007 and only one episode has aired.The first episode hinted the meeting of Ted and mother after losing a yellow umbrella and said at the end of episode showing a street surrounded by black umbrella.
