Charlie Harper is portrayed as chauvinist womanizer, a successful bachelor in writing advertisement jingles at his mid-thirties age. His carefree lifestyle interrupted when his brother Alan and young son David moved in his house. He and David formed a unsuspecting bond with each other.
Alan Harper is an uptight self-conscious nerdy who becomes divorced to his wife Judith. After his divorce, he loses his house which decides him to transfer to his brother Charlie together with his 14 years old son David.
